Reducing stress at Smith

Being a college student can be stressful. Most Smith students report that they have experienced some stress-related symptoms, such as feeling overwhelmed and drained, throughout their time at school. Developing healthy coping skills is important to stress management and can reduce overall stress levels. Be sure you are getting enough sleep, taking time for fun and relaxation, prioritizing physical fitness and health eating and practicing effective time-management strategies. Make the most out of your college experience and resources available by experiencing new things and getting involved around campus.

Humans of Smith

Inspired by “Humans of New York,” “Humans of Smith” is dedicated to sharing stories from the Smith community.

Smithie on the street

With the new school year in full swing, first-year students are acclimating to the environment here at Smith and developing their sense of style as they experience college life.

Five ways to give back this October

As the semester ploughs on and schedules get busier and busier, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, even if you do not have time to participate in a long-term community service placement this semester, there are many volunteering options on campus and in the local community that require less of a time commitment. It’s easier than you think to find a one-time volunteering project to fit into your schedule. Here are some short-term community service projects to check out this month!

Coursicle: A new app for course registration

Coursicle, an online service that allows college students to easily browse classes and plan their class schedule, has just launched at Smith College (https://www.coursicle.com/smith/). Created by Joe Puccio, a 2016 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, and Tara Aida, a Harvard alumna of 2016, Coursicle started at UNC Chapel Hill in 2012 and has grown to support over 450 colleges. The Sophian interviewed Puccio to learn how the app works.

Bored? Here’s what’s happening on campus!

Happy fall! It’s that wonderful time of year where the leaves change color, cozy sweaters are perfect for a breezy day, and the friend-making process is in full swing. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out where to go or what to do in order to meet these new friends, or activities you can do with your newly found besties. Or, maybe while the lovely fall breeze is blowing through, it makes you want to learn something new. Luckily, there are many events on campus that happen each week and are open for drop-ins.

Smith sartorial: On the street

Smith is a hub for individuality, and style is just one of the ways in which Smithies display it. I first noticed Sofia Canale-Parola’s ’21 clothing on Instagram before we met on campus. When we spoke, she defined style for an individual as, “When their clothing accurately and comfortably reflects their personality.”

Cuisine and Customs, Korea Style

This past Saturday, the Korean American Students of Smith (KASS) hosted their annual Korean Culture Day. The activities, which took place in the afternoon, were…
