We, the Community Health Organizers, constructively disagree with the article, “How to Have a Good Convocation,” published on September 1st in The Sophian. Although we recognize that the article was not meant to be taken seriously, all Smith students have a responsibility to model safe and inclusive practices for living in community, meeting new people, partying, and participating in consensual sexual encounters. This is even more important during a pandemic, to keep everyone safe and healthy.

Seguir una educación al nivel superior es un privilegio, particularmente para las comunidades marginadas de todo el país, que conozco de primera mano como estudiante Latine criado en Spanish Harlem. Muchos de los miembros de mi familia no tenían acceso a la universidad y tuvieron que pasar de un trabajo a otro durante toda su vida, y tengo la suerte de decir que estoy inscrito en Smith College. Sin embargo, junto con este privilegio, viene la gran carga de pagar los suministros, especialmente los libros de texto, que a menudo son obligatorios para tomar un curso.
