WOZQ’s Spring Concert: The Joy of Live Music at Smith College

On April 22, a rainy Saturday evening, the concert of a lifetime was about to take place. Three
different groups were expected to perform that night: Siggy and the Futz, Father Koi, and Kilo
Kish. I truly had no idea what I was in for.

I got there at 7 PM on the dot, just as the poster instructed, and got first-row seats. The key to
any concert is getting as close as you can to the front, why would I not want to be a foot away
from the artists?

It began with Siggy and the Futz. They serenaded me in Amy Winehouse—they always pick the
best songs to perform. Siggy and the Futz never fail to amaze me, and I hope they carry on
throughout the rest of my time here. It’s awesome seeing student bands pop up on campus and I
hope to see more next year. (Also shout out Maya & Fia and Fishtube, hope to see y’all perform
more in the Fall!)

Next came Father Koi, with her intricate outfit and band of three. The four of them altogether
were an unexpected group, and they rocked on as Father Koi sang using some sort of synthesizer.
I had never heard that type of sound live before, so I was very intrigued. This was when things
started to get bouncier, louder, and finally, more people began to show up. I’ve never been to a
hyperpop concert before so this was an awesome first. Shoutout Father Koi – they just released a
new album (everything is a dream, but it is your dream).

One of the most beautiful moments of the night was during the break between Father Koi and
Kilo Kish. It began to rain even harder than before, but my friends and I decided to take a step
outside. Although it began to rain on us, the joy of the evening subdued any concern of being
wet. Kilo Kish was next up, and that’s all that mattered.

When Kilo Kish came out, the room turned purple as she strutted on stage. Her dress was
glittery, her belt too. It reflected perfectly in the cool lighting. I felt slightly damp, hot, and a
little tired, but it didn’t matter anymore, It was Kilo time! As she walked across the stage,
singing her first song, the crowd began to let loose a little more. I jumped and danced and sang
and smiled as she went from song to song. Seeing her perform was an experience of a lifetime. I
had only known one of her songs beforehand, but it simply did not matter. Kilo Kish knew
exactly what she was doing. Her voice was beautiful, the whole set was beautiful. You know it’s
a good concert when your head is blank – the only thing you can hear is music. I was joined by
some friends who came a little later, and together we all danced. More people came to the front,
and we danced with them too. It was beautiful.

After the set had ended, one of my friends got the chance to talk to her. Gaby proclaimed to me
in our art history class: “She was really really sweet and I was talking to her about my radio
segment on WOZQ. She said if we ever need someone to call in she would” -Gaby Adams ‘26
So, shout out WOZQ for an awesome night. Smith College never fails to amaze and intrigue me.
See you next Fall, WOZQ.
