On Saturday, April 5, the Smith College track and field officially began their 2014 outdoor season at the Fourth Annual Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College. Danielle Opatovsky ’16 qualified for the ECAC, Open New England and Division III New England championship meets by earning 3rd place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:48.35. Teammates Katherine Quarles Stephens ’17 and Micaela Young ’14 finished seventh and eight respectively and also earned a spot in the Division III New England meet. Paige Sarlandt ’14 qualified for the D-III New England event after finishing eighth in the shot put with a throw of 10.99 meters. Katie Hitchcock-Smith ’17 also qualified for the the D-III event after earning 16th place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.20 seconds.
The team hosts the Smith Invitational on Saturday, April 12.
