Swimming and Diving
The Smith Swimming and Diving team had an impressive win over Westfield State (167-110) on Nov. 24, making this game the team’s fourth win of the season. The team won 11 out of 16 events and recorded 28 season best times. Desi Stoyanovich ’19 started the day’s events by streamlining past the competition in the 1,000 free with a 11:19.24 time. Meredith Millman ’16 finished with 2:10.18 in the 200 free and 58.62 in the 100 free, landing her in first place in both competitions. The Smith Pioneers also finished first in the 200 fly, 50 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 500 free and 100 fly. In the one-meter dive, three Smith divers dominated the meet. Elyse Stone ’18 placed first (263.80), Anna Partridge ’16 in second at 268.75, and Cecelia Arrison ’16 in third at 280.75. It was Partridge’s first NCAA qualifying score, recording a 268.75 time.
Basketball
The Smith basketball team earned its second win of the season so far against Wentworth (59-44) on Nov. 24. The game began with a tight match-up. Both teams kept no more than a three point difference in score for the first quarter. By the end of the second quarter, the Pioneers were winning 29-21. By the end of the third quarter, the Pioneers were still up 39-35, with the point gap slowly closing. The Pioneers finished 59-44, capitalizing on their lead in the earlier quarters. Kennedy Guest-Pritchett ’19, played a solid role in the win, with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Paige Marquez ’18 (12 points, five assists and four rebounds) and Lauren Bondi ’19 (10 points, six rebounds and three assists) also contributed in a hard-fought win. On the defensive side, Smith outrebounded Wentworth 50-33 and documented 26 turnovers.
Equestrian
Many student athletes took home ribbons at the Mount Holyoke horse show. Qingyun Zheng ’16 won a third place ribbon in Walk and Trot. Jesse Azevedo ’18 placed third in Walk, Trot and Canter Equitation. Sara Pavlich ’18 placed second in Intermediate Equitation Over Fences. All qualified for the Regional Championships at the Mount Holyoke Horse Show.
Pavlich, Jordan Menter ’16 and Peyton Higgins ’18 have qualified in both their flat and jumping divisions. Other riders who have qualified earlier this fall include Charlotte Berg ’18 and Morgan Schwartz ’18, earning Smith a total of 14 spots at Regionals as they close the fall season. Smith placed third all around.
