Smithies who are undocumented or have undocumented families are constantly evolving their preparations for the ‘what if’ under the current administration’s harsh crackdown on immigration. The Undocumented Student Organization (USO) has dramatically changed the ways they support their members, who don’t even account for all undocumented students on Smith campus facing these battles on their own.

María Isabel tenía diez años cuando se venció su visa de visitante en los Estados Unidos. Había llegado a este país a los cuatro años con sus padres y su hermana mayor, en busca de mejores oportunidades, como lo hicieron las múltiples generaciones anteriores de inmigrantes que han llegado a los Estados Unidos desde su formación. Hoy ella es orgullosamente una Smithie y pertenece a la primera generación en su familia que se graduará de la universidad.
María Isabel was ten years old when her visitor’s visa to the United States expired. She was brought here at age four with her parents and older sister in search of better opportunities, much like previous generations of immigrants that have reached the United States since its formation. Today she is proudly a first generation Smithie.
