On March 30, Helen Frank, MHC ’25, attended an annual department tea for the German Studies and Russian and Eurasian Studies departments at Mount Holyoke. Frank was looking forward to seeing classmates within her major that she had not seen that semester.

In recent weeks, Amherst College athletes have taken to kneeling during the national anthem to protest police brutality in the United States. The protests follow in the footsteps of National Football League and other professional athletes’ protests.
Last week in Springfield, 18 Hampshire County residents were arrested at the Department of Homeland Security’s regional office while protesting the deportation of an undocumented resident of the county. The demonstrators were reportedly blocking the front entrance and restricting access to the building. Amongst the 150 people gathered were residents from Amherst, Northampton and Hadley.
