Protestors Demonstrate Outside L3Harris Northampton in Support of Palestine

As they marched down West St. from Smith’s College Hall to L3Harris Northampton Offices, Smith students and local activists chanted “Free Free Palestine” and “What do we want? Divestment! When do we want it? Now!” The Oct. 25 protest was against L3Harris, a weapons manufacturing company that has offices in Northampton and whose weapons are used by the Israeli military. Protestors called on Smith to divest from L3Harris, the city of Northampton to shut down the location and L3Harris employees themselves to stop manufacturing weapons and distributing them to the Israeli military.

Students Protest to Support Dining and Housekeeping Union

Shouting students stood outside the entrance to the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility (ITT) while, inside, President McCartney held her fall party on Friday, Sept. 9. The mass of students chanting “1 2 3 4, we won't take it anymore! 5 6 7 8, come on Kathy, negotiate!” were protesting the college’s treatment of its dining and housekeeping workers in ongoing contract negotiations.

House Presidents Resign En Masse, Demand Change

House presidents have had enough. Frustrated, feeling taken for granted and ignored by the administration, they won’t put up with it any longer. This Sunday, April 10, 14 of them gathered in Seelye Hall to finalize their plans for a mass resignation from the House President Association. On Monday, April 11, 24 house presidents submitted their resignations, while three more wrote letters of support.

Inside an Elizabeth Warren Protest

On Sept. 12, protestors once again descended upon Northampton, this time to protest Senator Elizabeth Warren. Senator Warren held a town hall at Forbes Library. As attendees waited on folding chairs and blankets on Forbes Lawn, protestors competed with Senator Warren’s pre-event playlist. Indistinct chants echoed over the sounds of ‘9 to 5’ by Dolly Parton turned up to full blast.
