Un ex gerente de teatro demanda a miembros de la compañía Northampton por difamación y daños emocionales, El juicio se acerca a su conclusión

Troy David Mercier está demandando a miembros de una compañía de teatro de Northampton, Proyecto Teatro 24 horas , una afiliada de Paintbox Theater Company, por 150.000 dólares por supuesta difamación y daños emocionales. Mercier recibió un máster en dramaturgia de Smith College y una licenciatura en Teatro de la Universidad de Massachusetts en Amherst. Mercier empezó a trabajar en Paintbox Theater en 2004 y ha sido un miembro activo del teatro desde entonces. Paintbox Theater ha utilizado las facilidades teatrales de Smith para organizar algunas de sus actuaciones antes de esta demanda.

Four Candidates Compete for Two At-Large City Council Seats in Upcoming Northampton Election

In the upcoming Northampton election, four candidates are vying for two City Council at-large seats.

On Nov. 7, four names will appear on the ballot for Councilor-at-Large: Incumbent Marissa Elkins, Ward 4 Councilor Garrick M. Perry, former city councilor David Murphy and former mayoral candidate Roy C. Martin.

Current city councilor Jamilia Gore will not be running for a second term in office. Gore was the first African American woman to hold the at-large seat.

Protestors March for Palestine at Smith College and Northampton

Smith students and local community members marched in the streets of Northampton on Thursday, Oct 19 to protest in solidarity with Palestinians against Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip, Israel’s apartheid state and Smith College’s response to the conflict.

Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Scarria '96, has attributed her decision to attend Smith College to the profound impression she experienced upon first driving into the city. After completing her undergraduate studies, Scarria pursued a career in political consulting in San Francisco and later joined the ACLU's national office in New York. While earning her graduate degree at the City University of New York, Scarria resided in Northampton and was a campaign manager for a local City Councilor before being inspired to run for office herself.
