‘La Vita è bella’: Recensione del film

L’anno è il 1939 nel Regno d’Italia. Guido Orefice (interpretato da Roberto Benigni) è arrivato da poco in città per lavorare in un ristorante con suo zio. Appena arrivato, Guido si innamora di Dora (interpretata da Nicoletta Braschi), una donna che è già fidanzata con u ricco ma arrogante funzionario fascista. Grazie al suo umorismo e alla sua arguzia, Guido è capace di  organizzare molti incontri « casuali » per mostrarle il suo interesse per lei. Dopo imbucarsi alla festa  di Dora e aver umiliato sua madre e il suo fidanzato, Guida riesce a sedurla con il suo carisma. Poco  dopo si sposano e hanno un figlio, chiamato Giosuè (interpretato da Giorgio Cantarini).  

The Perfect Match: A ‘Battle of the Sexes’ Review

Battle of the Sexes, released last September, is a biographical, sports comedy-drama film set in the 1970’s. The plot is loosely based on the famous 1973 tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs. The film stars Emma Stone as King and Steve Carell as Riggs, with Andrea Riseborough, Elisabeth Shue, Austin Stowell, Bill Pullman and Sarah Silverman in supporting roles.
    The project and its two leads were announced in 2015. Principal photography on the film began in Los Angeles in 2016, with a budget of more than $25 million. The film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last September.

“Rang De Basanti,” or in English, “Colour it Saffron,” is a 2006 Indian, drama film written, produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. The title can be literally translated as “Paint me with the colours of spring.”

This production was directed by Isabelle Brown ‘19. From lighting design to set design to costume design, the entire cast and crew was student-led. 

Film review of ‘La journée de la jupe’

Directed by Jean-Paul Lilienfeld, the 2008 French drama “La journée de la jupe” is loosely based on true events. A key aspect of the plot happened in real life: a request was sent to the French Secretary of Education to propose a National Skirt Day. 

Interview with emerging alternative-pop band Secret Weapons

Alternative-pop duo Secret Weapons brought their fall tour to Northampton at Pearl Street on Sept. 16. This tour follows the release of their recent album “As the Setting Sun Comes Crashing Down on Me.” Before their Northampton performance, The Sophian had the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with the band in regards to their first solo tour and recent album.
