Coursicle, an online service that allows college students to easily browse classes and plan their class schedule, has just launched at Smith College (https://www.coursicle.com/smith/). Created by Joe Puccio, a 2016 graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, and Tara Aida, a Harvard alumna of 2016, Coursicle started at UNC Chapel Hill in 2012 and has grown to support over 450 colleges. The Sophian interviewed Puccio to learn how the app works.

Happy fall! It’s that wonderful time of year where the leaves change color, cozy sweaters are perfect for a breezy day, and the friend-making process is in full swing. Sometimes it can be difficult to figure out where to go or what to do in order to meet these new friends, or activities you can do with your newly found besties. Or, maybe while the lovely fall breeze is blowing through, it makes you want to learn something new. Luckily, there are many events on campus that happen each week and are open for drop-ins.
Smith is a hub for individuality, and style is just one of the ways in which Smithies display it. I first noticed Sofia Canale-Parola’s ’21 clothing on Instagram before we met on campus. When we spoke, she defined style for an individual as, “When their clothing accurately and comfortably reflects their personality.”
Alternative-pop duo Secret Weapons brought their fall tour to Northampton at Pearl Street on Sept. 16. This tour follows the release of their recent album “As the Setting Sun Comes Crashing Down on Me.” Before their Northampton performance, The Sophian had the opportunity to conduct a brief interview with the band in regards to their first solo tour and recent album.
In the new landscape of existential art-house, horror films that have been appearing in theaters recently, none have been quite like the no-holds-barred, horrific insanity of Darren Aronofsky’s “mother!”
The Smith College Museum of Art had the privilege of hosting Gen Saratani, a Japanese lacquer artist and restorer, on Thursday Sept. 21 and Friday Sept. 22.
How important is it to your success as a student in a Smith classroom, to be American?
Of the million things I thought about before I came to Smith, this was something I took for granted. I assumed that a college education is global, no matter where you go, and that’s exactly what I wanted. I believe a global education is valuable, and it encourages a greater understanding of world problems. And that has been my experience, to some extent.
However, I was forced to think harder about this as I started to peruse the course catalog more intently and took more classes.
This past Saturday, the Korean American Students of Smith (KASS) hosted their annual Korean Culture Day. The activities, which took place in the afternoon, were…
“When I stood on the Boston Common for [the Women’s March],” Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey said to a packed Weinstein Auditorium Tuesday, “I said my message to Donald Trump was ‘I’ll see you in court.’ Now even I didn’t think it’d be so soon or so often.”
Autumn returns to Smith College. Our favorite feature of the season: fall sports. Smith student-athletes have been on campus and sweating through preseason since August.
