This week’s featured athlete is member of the Smith College softball team Gina Martucci ’16. Martucci has already been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week once and earned the title again on April 21. This past Saturday at the NEWMAC Tournament against fourth-seeded Springfield College, Martucci threw a three-hit shutout and led the team to a 1-0 victory against the reigning NEWMAC champions. She pitched again on Sunday, April 27 to help her team claim a 7-4 victory against Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which advanced them to the final day of tournament play which will take place on Saturday, May 3. She allowed only four runs and had five strikeouts. Martucci now boasts an impressive 17-6 record on the season.
