GUEST ESSAYS
Members of the Smith community may submit guest essays (formerly known as letters to the editor) by emailing sophian@smith.edu. This is the only way for community members not affiliated with The Sophian to be published in the paper; those who wish to write pieces for other sections must apply through the journalist application form.
Guidelines:
- Essays may be of any length, but The Sophian reserves the right to edit letters for length and clarity.
- Essays must address topics relevant to the Smith community.
- Essays written in response to articles published in The Sophian must clearly name the article and author to which they are responding.
- Essays must be written for The Sophian. Please do not submit pieces published elsewhere or written for non-journalism courses.
- Essays will not be accepted anonymously. However, names may be withheld from publication on request.
- The Sophian reserves the right not to publish any guest essays.
