Starting in the fall of 2023, the Schacht Center began a program aimed at providing harm reduction resources to Smith students, including Narcan trainings, NaloxBoxes and personalized Harm Reduction bags.

The Get Fit Smith (GFS) program was designed to bolster student engagement by offering a mix of different physical activities and creating a space for students and faculty to teach workout classes to the community. There are currently 13 classes offered throughout the week, ranging from spin classes to zumba, yoga and even functional workout programs.
Over 250 student-athletes are part of Smith Athletics' 11 varsity sports teams. Any injury, rehabilitation process, practice and game coverage or mental support needed for these athletes are directed towards the Athletic Training (AT) Department. The department is run by Deb Coutu and Kelli Steele, the only AT’s on staff this year after the loss of the graduate assistant position due to a 2015 policy change by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association (NATA).

Smith’s ultimate frisbee team, LunaDisc, is open to all students regardless of ability or experience level. The organization operates as a single team socially, but they are split up into two teams for competition: Luna is the “A” team or the team for more experienced players, while Sola (short for solar eclipse) is a more developmental league that provides hands-on support and practice for newer players. Each team has two captains: Al Torrens-Martin ’25 and Sophia Jerome ’27 lead Luna, while Ginger Silverman ’26 and Syd Pichette ’27 lead Sola.

Though sexual violence is not always considered a widespread problem on Smith’s campus, data proves that it may be more prevalent than most students assume. Hillary Connor ’26 is working to advocate for reproductive justice at Smith and in the broader community.
For the past few years, the Smith College Crew team has consistently been ranking in the top ten Division III teams in the country, but this season has been one to remember. Three Smith athletes, out of a total of 18 athletes nationally, were recognized by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) as “rowers to watch”: Megan Holm ’24, Linnea Schultz ’24 and Sofia Trotta ’25.
On Mar. 16, 2024, the Smith women’s basketball team completed their final game of the season at the NCAA Division III National Tournament in Columbus, Ohio. Although New York University (NYU) defeated Smith 51-41, their journey to the national championship game was still a victory for the program.
Katherine Welsh ’26 of the Smith Swim and Dive team placed 13th in the 1-meter dive and 14th in the 3-meter dive at the NCAA Division III Northeast Regional Diving Championships hosted by Colby College in Waterville, Maine on Mar. 1-2, 2024. This is the second time Welsh has qualified for Regionals in her career at Smith and her highest placement so far.
