The Pioneers’ winning streak ended at eight this Sunday with a 73-52 loss to No. 22 Babson College. After a 24 hour delay in the aftermath of Winter Storm Nemo, the final home game of the season was moved to Mount Holyoke College.

With the loss, Smith’s record moves to 20-3 overall and 14-2 in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference, with both losses coming from Babson. Paulina Solis ‘15 led the Pioneers in scoring with 17 points, while Amanda Zakoske  ’13 and Devon Quattrocchi ’13 followed with 12 each.

The Beavers took an early 11-4 lead but a three pointer from Quattrocchi brought Smith within four at the 15:50. After back to back baskets put Babson up 23-13, a layup from Marissa Munoz-Ruiz ’14 started a 10-0 Pioneer run to tie the score. Babson ended the first half with a 15-5 run to enter the break with a 40-30 lead. The Beavers opened the second half with a 13-2 run to put the game out of reach for the Pioneers.

Prior to the game, Smith honored seniors Amanda Zakoske, Devon Quattrocchi and Brittany Purington. The class of 2013 players entered their final home game with a four year record of 74-30, including an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship and a school record 23 wins in 2011-12.

The Pioneers will close out the regular season with road games against Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Wellesley College.
