For the first time this year, two Smith Pioneers were named this week’s athlete of the week. The honors go to cross country member Danielle Opatovsky ’16 and soccer’s Emily Smith ’17.
Opatovsky finished 13th out of 145 runners in the NEWMAC Championship race on Nov. 1. Finishing with a time of 19:05. She also earned All-NEWMAC honors for the third straight season. This is Opatovsky’s second time earning Smith’s Athlete of the Week
Emily Smith ’17 scored a goal in the Pioneers’ victory over Mount Holyoke on Oct. 28, clinching the soccer team a spot in the NEWMAC playoffs for the first time since 2007. She also added a goal against Wheaton College on Nov. 1, and an assist in the Pioneers’ playoff game against Babson College on Nov. 4.
