Since 1934, the Masters Golf Tournament has been a place for golf’s greatest moments. The first full week of April ushers in unique sportsmanship and camaraderie. Over four days and 72 holes, golfers compete for a chance to capture the Green Jacket and a place in Masters history in Augusta, Ga.
The 79th tournament began on April 9 and is the first of the four major golf championships this year. Officially, the Masters is an invitation-only event, but there are still qualifying criteria that determine who is included on the field. Players are classified according to the first category in which he qualified. Golfers who qualify based solely on their performance in amateur tournaments remain amateurs on the starting day of the tournament and are then eligible to play.
Champions who have made the cut include are some familiar players like Phil Nickelson, Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, Bubba Waston, Vijay Singh and many more talented athletes. There are numerous nationalities present at the field ranging from Argentina, Chile and South Africa to South Korea and India. On April 12, Jordan Speith won the tournament and smiled with confidence as the famous Green Jacket was placed on this shoulders for the first time.
