On Wednesday, Sept. 23, emerging soft rock band Infinity Song performed at the Iron Horse in downtown Northampton. The intimate feel of the Iron Horse was the perfect backdrop to experience the quartet’s exhilarating stage presence and vocal abilities. Their latest self-titled record was released June 12, featuring singles “One Foot Out” and “Hurricane,” as they make their way across the East Coast, Florida and Europe on tour.
Infinity Song is composed of siblings Angel, Abraham, Momo and Israel. Originally from Detroit, MI, the group later moved to New York to perform in a choir directed by their father, before signing to record label Roc Nation in 2016. The group’s clear gospel and jazz influences were on display that night, drawing on artists like Pat Metheny, Marvin Gaye and The Winans Family.
The band gained global attention for the first time in 2023 for their viral TikTok song “Hater’s Anthem.” That moment positioned the band for their 2024 album, “Metamorphosis,” and then to make an even bigger leap on to their most recent groovy third album.
The sibling quartet immediately drew the audience in with a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s iconic “Dreams.” Abraham swiftly encouraged everyone in the crowd to find their own “micro movement,” and it was not long before you could feel the floorboards pulsing in sync with the weight of the swaying crowd. Arms were in the air, and drinks were spilled on the floor.
Their song “Mad Love” was another highlight, where their gospel roots particularly shined. My favorite track was “Hurricane,” where they collectively belt “Hu-hurricane, let it pour / And I’ll keep waiting for more.” Throughout the show, each member had their chance to shine – whether it be Israel’s witty sense of humor, Abraham’s soulful vocals, or Angel and Momos’ synchronized dance moves. As the show went on, the group grew more comfortable on the dance floor, their movements becoming increasingly relaxed and uninhibited.
Momo was the obvious standout entertainer, turning heads with her flawless vocal performance, guitar proficiency, lustrous hair and glossed lips. She performed her solo debut “American Love Story,” which was stripped back and vocal-forward. Momo frequently utilizes a stylized twang that strikingly mirrors Miley Cyrus’s country-to-rock crossover vocal style. “Everyday I’m grateful that a year ago I took this chance,” Momo admitted to the crowd, with a bittersweet sigh, “How many people shared with me about what this means to them..that is the biggest reward.” Her collaboration with Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem has steadily been gaining traction; her solo career is poised for success.
The show concluded with one of their most acclaimed songs, “Metamorphosis” – a record about growth that perfectly encapsulates the band’s own musical evolution. During the song, Israel lifted his guitar over his head to masterfully play a stellar solo, marking the most memorable moment of the concert. Ultimately, Infinity Song’s emerging success challenges boundaries of the small indie music scene in Northampton, paving the way to making rock a more inclusive and interesting space.
